The Boston Celtics understood their season was in grave danger when they were trailing by nine points early in the third quarter and trailing the series by a score of 3-0.

After three minutes, there was a noticeable difference in how everything seemed.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 34 points and 11 rebounds, while Derrick White and Jaylen Brown each contributed 16 points. Derrick White and Jaylen Brown each added 16 points as the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 116-99 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals on Tuesday night. With this victory, the Boston Celtics avoided elimination from the Eastern Conference finals.

Tatum explained that they were merely attempting to rescue their season.

They unequivocally came up with a method to accomplish that goal. The two major distinctions are that the Celtics had a 33-point advantage on 3-pointers and that they went on an 18-0 run during the three-minute, third-quarter spurt that altered the game and, the Celtics hope, might change the series. Both of these disparities are significant.

The Celtics’ head coach, Joe Mazzulla, emphasized that his team must always remain vigilant. “In the next game, we need to maintain the same level of intensity as we did in the last one, as well as the same mindset and focus.”

Grant Williams scored 14, Al Horford added 12, and Marcus Smart scored 11 points for the Celtics, who still trail the series 3-1 but have sent it back to Boston for Game 5 on Thursday.

During a run of 14 minutes in which Miami was outscored 48-22, Miami’s Jimmy Butler scored 29 points for the Heat. This stretch of play was the turning point in the game and possibly in the series. If Boston can maintain extending this series, then the Celtics would also host Game 7 at their arena.

Tatum remarked that tonight’s performance had “pace and purpose.” “We were getting stops. We were going through the process of change when we left. When you watch layups and free throws going in, jump shots feel much more straightforward.

For Miami, Gabe Vincent scored 17, Caleb Martin added 16, and Bam Adebayo chipped in with 10 points. While Miami made only eight of their thirty-two attempts from beyond the arc, Boston made nineteen of their forty-five attempts.

There has never been a team in the history of the NBA that has been able to come back from being down 3-0 in a best-of-seven series and win; 150 teams have tried, and 150 teams have failed.

The Celtics, however, gave themselves reason to be hopeful.

According to what Mazzulla had to say, “We Do not Have a Choice.” “It is do-or-die. We have to maintain our unity.”

The Heat held a lead of as many as nine points in the first quarter, maintained that lead for the rest of the first half, and were up by nine points once again when Max Strus made a 3-pointer early in the third quarter.

At that precise time, the outcome of Boston’s entire season was in question.

The Celtics answered, and it was a very resounding one.

In under three minutes and three seconds, Boston was able to come back from being down nine points to take the lead with an 18-0 run. During the run, the Celtics shot 6 for seven from the field, 4 for four from 3-point range, and Tatum scored nine of the team’s 18 points. Just like that, the reigning East champions — who won three playoff games on Miami’s home floor in last year’s playoffs — were rolling again.

Adebayo remarked, “We always say the last one to get is the hardest one to get,” and he echoed this sentiment throughout the conversation. “I was prepared for their plight,” I said.

The Heat closed the gap to four points late in the third quarter, but the Celtics responded with another lightning-fast run, scoring seven consecutive points in only forty seconds. After winning the third quarter by a score of 38-23, with 21 of those points coming from 3-pointers, Boston had a lead of 88-79 going into the final period of play.

The remainder of the game was played with the Celtics maintaining their lead.

“They got us tonight,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. “We were not good enough.” “That is something you have to give credit to them for. There is no room for debate. It can not be denied under any circumstances. That is hardly a question that even crosses our minds. They walked away with tonight’s victory after earning it. We need to reorganize ourselves and prepare for a fantastic opportunity in Boston.

Tatum’s second three-pointer of the game was the 220th of his career in the postseason, making it the most in Celtics playoff history. The last time Boston went on a losing skid of four games was in May 2021, which was late in the 2020-21 regular season. It was Tatum’s first fourth-quarter field goal of the series, giving Boston a seven-point lead with 9 minutes and 22 seconds remaining. It also ended a run by the Heat.

The injury to Vincent’s left ankle forced him to leave the game early in the fourth quarter for the Heat. However, it was yet to be the postseason, and Miami already had its sights set on a first-ever five-game winning run during the regular season. In December, the team went on a four-game win streak, the longest of the regular season.
