Jimmy Alapag is going to be taking on a new responsibility.
In the next 2023–24 NBA season, the Filipino basketball legend will be working for the Sacramento Kings as a player development coach, reporting to head coach Mike Brown.
Alapag broke the news on all of his social media channels on Saturday morning local time in Manila, describing the event as “a dream come true.”
“Proud to announce that I’ll be joining Coach Mike Brown and his staff as a Player Development Coach for the upcoming NBA season,” Alapag stated in a statement. “I am overwhelmed by how blessed I am, and I am grateful for this opportunity.”
Before being elevated to his current position, Alapag worked as an assistant coach under Bobby Jackson with the Stockton Kings, which is the Kings’ G League affiliate team. In addition, he was a member of the coaching staff that led the Kings to victory in the 2021 Las Vegas Summer League.
The Kings shocked the league last season and ended as the No. 3 seed in the West to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. This achievement was made possible by Mike Brown, who was recently awarded the honor for Coach of the Year.
