According to his representatives Jim Tanner, Max Wiepking, and Terrence Felder of Tandem Sports + Entertainment, Memphis Grizzlies player Desmond Bane has agreed to an extension of his maximum contract that would pay him $207 million over a span of five years.
The long-term contracts of Memphis’ three most important players—Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Desmond Bane—have finally been finalized. The Grizzlies organization has never before had a player sign a contract worth more than Bane’s.
Since being taken with the 30th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Desmond Bane, now 25 years old, has emerged as one of the most promising young shooting guards in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His career highs in points (21.5), rebounds (5.0), assists (4.4), and field goal percentage (48%) were all set for the 2017–2018 season with the Memphis Grizzlies, who finished with 51 wins.
Additionally, Desmond Bane continued his streak of shooting at least 40 percent or better from outside the arc, a feat he has accomplished in each of his three NBA seasons.
Desmond Bane made an immediate contribution as a rookie and has made big strides forward each year of his career, advancing his career averages in scoring, rebounding, and assists each year. Bane was an instant contributor as a rookie.
Bane has established himself as one of the best three-point shooters in the league because he has made 42.5% of his shots from beyond the arc throughout his three-year career and has regularly increased the number of attempts he makes each season. It is the second-best 3-point percentage over the past three seasons among players who have made at least 400 3-point shots. His previous season’s total of 228 made three-pointers established a new record for Memphis’ club.
Desmond Bane is also a dynamic shooter, able to make elite-caliber shots both off the catch and off the dribble at a high rate of speed. According to Second Spectrum, there have been 73 players who have attempted 250 off the dribble three-pointers and 250 off-the-catch three-pointers over the course of the last three seasons. Bane is one of only five players who has shot at least 40% from each style of three-point attempt.
